Zelda became the first executive director of the South Carolina Afterschool Alliance; and is responsible for fostering partnerships and policies to develop, support and sustain quality
afterschool and summer learning opportunities for children and youth. The South Carolina Afterschool Alliance serves as a driving force, bringing stakeholders—including state policymakers and local leaders in education, as well as youth development, juvenile justice, childcare, health and workforce development organizations—together to develop best practices and support public policies focused on the critical opportunities that help children and youth learn and succeed particularly in underserved communities.
Zelda holds multiple state and national leadership positions including service on the Boards of the South Carolina Association of Non-Profit Organizations, Midlands Technical College Early Childhood Development, and the National Advisory Board of the White-Riley-Peterson Policy Fellowship of the Riley Institute at Furman University.
Zelda has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of South Carolina and is a graduate of the Riley Diversity Leadership Institute at Furman University. She is married to Wade A. Waymer and they have one son, William Drake Waymer.
