Connecting Afterschool with Broader Education Policy Discussion

Advancing afterschool and expanded learning in your state most likely requires demonstrating how it connects to broader education policy discussions. States will share their experiences in linking afterschool in general to particular state initiatives coming from the governor, state legislature or a powerful statewide education reform group. Three state network leads will discuss how they both engaged with these education reform decision makers and how they reshaped expanded learning afterschool and summers to fit this broader reform agenda. In some cases, they learned lessons from experiences from their states’ 21st CCLC implementation, and knowing the unfunded grant request amounts helped make some of their deliberations more specific.
