Carol K. McElvain's work focuses on helping schools and communities build their capacity to leverage resources and become stronger, more supportive systems to help improve the lives of youth. She is a national leader on afterschool, focusing on providing research-based, high-quality training, technical assistance, and professional development and disseminating research results and policy reports to diverse audiences in the public education sector throughout the country. She has led efforts to study the implementation of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers state competition process for the U.S. Department of Education and has worked as a consultant with the Mott Foundation-sponsored Statewide Afterschool Networks for the past decade. She is coauthor of the seminal afterschool resource Beyond the Bell: A Toolkit for Creating High-Quality Afterschool Programs, currently in its fourth edition. She loves Utah and has been deeply impressed by the commitment of the afterschool community long work to make the future bright for Utah's young people.
